Laser hair removal (epilation)
The method of permanent hair removal with follicles
Due to its efficiency, it is one of the most popular laser procedures. Because the developmental stages of growth of the hairs are different, it is necessary to repeat the procedure several times (at least 3 times), ideally after six to eight weeks. The most frequently treated locations are the armpits, groins, legs, unwanted facial hair in women, in men facial hair on the neck or hair on the back.
Do not trust offers of beauty salons promising complete hair removal after the first treatment. It is impossible. Permanent removal of unwanted hair cannot be achieved using IPL systems as often reported. Nevertheless, an IPL system can be of great help in other procedures if used by an expert.
Everything takes time, so one cannot expect immediate effect when it comes to permanent hair removal.
Epilation – how does it work?
Hair removal using the Fotona Nd: YAG epilation laser can be achieved using two different methods:
- Selective photothermolysis targets the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle during the growth phase (anagen phase), when it is filled with pigment, and
- Homogeneous photothermolysis is based on the fact that the cells of the hair follicle in the anagen phase are more sensitive to heat, so the hair follicles are permanently destroyed without the involvement of surrounding tissue. This method is also suitable for persons with darker complexion because energy absorption by melanin in this case is very low.
The Fotona Nd: YAG laser system has deep penetration capabilities necessary to target even the deepest follicles, without causing damage to the surrounding tissues. Laser wavelength (1064 nm) targets primarily haemoglobin (red blood pigment) in afferent blood vessels located at the base of hair follicles.
How to prepare yourself for the epilation
A prerequisite for effective hair removal is dark hair on skin without suntan and no plucking for at least 1 month before the procedure. However, it is possible to shave or bleach the hairs.
The sensitive parts should be desensitize by anaesthetic cream EMLA, which should be applied about 2 or 3 hours prior to the treatment. It is possible to buy the cream at Chemist and apply in the comfort of your own home and then come to us for the actual treatment.
After the treatment, the skin is just a bit reddish, but it will calm down within the minutes. It is necessary to protect the skin by application of high UV filter cream.
